Candace Pate, MD, FAAP, joined the Commonwealth Pediatrics team as a board certified pediatrician in 2009. Her educational journey took root at UNC Chapel Hill for her undergraduate studies, where she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She then went on to study at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, where she earned her Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Pate’s commitment to children’s health further blossomed during her pediatric residency at the University of Virginia, where she honed her skills and developed a deep appreciation for preventive care.
Her decision to specialize in pediatrics stemmed from the realization, during medical school, of the immense rewards of caring for children, both in preventing illness and in treating them for acute illnesses. Dr. Pate is consistently amazed by the resilience of children and takes great joy in her role as a teacher to parents, guiding them through the various stages of their child’s life, from infancy to adolescence. She finds fulfillment in sharing the joys and helping families navigate the challenges of raising children. Dr. Pate’s approach to patient care is deeply personal, as she treats each visit with the same level of care and consideration she would provide to her own child.
Outside of work, she enjoys quality time with her family and friends, showcasing her culinary skills, expressing her creativity through drawing and painting and finding comfort in the presence of her two cats and a beloved, long-lived frog that she raised from a tadpole.
