Christopher Ayers
MD, FAAP

Christopher Ayers, MD, FAAP, is a board certified pediatrician who has been with the Commonwealth Pediatrics team since 2008. Dr. Ayers earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Virginia before embarking on his medical career at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency.

Among his notable accomplishments are achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and graduating with honors from UVA. Dr. Ayers possesses a broad spectrum of interests within pediatrics, holding certification in general pediatrics and demonstrating a keen interest in sports medicine and newborn care. His choice to specialize in pediatrics was driven by a profound desire to teach parents and families about medicine and the intricacies of caring for their children in both health and illness. He finds immense reward in supporting children and families through challenging situations.

Dr. Ayers’ favorite aspect of his role lies in the honesty of children. Whether through their words as they grow older or their unfiltered expressions and sounds as infants and toddlers, children engage in “honest and real” conversations, fostering a unique connection with their pediatrician. He is committed to giving families as much time as they need, listening attentively, absorbing their concerns and providing the most honest and educated solutions possible.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Ayers is an avid sports enthusiast, playing basketball and touch football with friends, golfing and passionately following UVA sports. He is married to Kate Ayers, who is the executive director of Re-Establish Richmond, a non-profit dedicated to helping refugees. Together, they have two daughters, Maya and Clara, and a beloved hound dog named Brogdon, named after his favorite UVA basketball player. He enjoys spending quality time with his daughters, who are actively involved in sports, and has even coached on occasion.
