Meet the Doctors

The doctors and nurse practitioners of Commonwealth Pediatrics are certified specialists in the provision of health care to infants, children and adolescents.

Nowsheen Ahmed

Nowsheen Ahmed

MD, FAAP

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Ahmed received her M.B.B.S medical degree from Dhaka Medical College in Bangladesh, and her M.D. from UTMB in Galveston Texas; where she also completed her residency and training in pediatrics.

Dr. Ahmed has been practicing primary care pediatrics for the last 25 years and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Before moving to Richmond in 2005, Dr. Ahmed worked as an Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University in Illinois.

Dr. Ahmed currently resides in Richmond, VA with her husband and two sons.

Christopher Ayers

Christopher Ayers

MD, FAAP

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Ayers received his M.D. from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. His residency and internship in Pediatrics were completed at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Ayers completed his undergraduate work at the University of Virginia where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.

Dr. Ayers resides in Richmond, VA with his wife and children.

Alice Condro

Alice Condro

MD, FAAP

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Condro is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the Virginia Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics, the Richmond Pediatric Society and the Richmond Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Condro received her M.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she was awarded the Dr. Edmund J. Bradley Prize for Excellence in Pediatrics, and the Dr. Leonard J. Hummel Prize for Excellence in Internal Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at the Children´s Hospital of Philadelphia, and then served as Chief Resident in Pediatrics and Clinical Attending at the Children´s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Condro completed her undergraduate work at Harvard University where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.

The Children´s Hospital of Philadelphia awarded her the Benjamin Ritter Award for “Devotion to the care and welfare of children, and exemplary service in the training of residents.”

Dr. Condro resides in Midlothian, VA with her husband and three children.

Jennifer Domer

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Domer is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the Virginia Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics, the Richmond Pediatric Society and the Richmond Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Domer received her M.D. from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. Dr. Domer completed her undergraduate work at The College of William and Mary in Virginia where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Dr. Domer resides in Midlothian, VA with her husband and son.

Kari Gilliam

MD, FAAP

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Gilliam is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the Virginia Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics, the Richmond Pediatric Society and the Richmond Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Gilliam received her M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. Dr. Gilliam completed her undergraduate work at Case Western Reserve University where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History, with minors in Biology and Chemistry.

Dr. Gilliam resides in Chesterfield County, VA with her husband.

Suzanne Greth

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Greth received her M.D. from the Wake Forrest University School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Greth completed her undergraduate work at the University of Arizona where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in Chemistry.

Dr. Greth resides in Ashland, VA with her husband and four children.

Candace Pate

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Candace Pate is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Pate attended East Carolina University School of Medicine and did her residency in Pediatrics at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Pate worked in General Pediatrics for 13 years in Augusta County, VA before moving to Richmond. Dr. Pate completed her undergraduate work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

Dr. Pate resides in Midlothian, VA with her husband and son.

Brian M. Schenberg

MD, FAAP

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Schenberg is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the Virginia Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics, and the Richmond Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Schenberg received his M.D. from the State University of New York, Downstate School of Medicine. His residency in Pediatrics was completed at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Schenberg completed his undergraduate work at Columbia University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and his Post Baccalaureate pre-medical work was completed at New York University.

Dr. Schenberg resides in Henrico with his wife and two children.

Paul M. Strehler

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Strehler is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the Virginia Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics, the Richmond Pediatric Society and the Richmond Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Strehler received his M.D. from the Hahnemann University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. Dr. Strehler completed his undergraduate work at Washington University in St. Louis where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.

In 2008 and 2015, Dr. Strehler was selected as one of the best pediatric physicians in Richmond by the annual survey conducted by Richmond Magazine.

Dr. Strehler resides in Moseley, VA with his wife and three children.

is board certified in pediatric medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Talibi is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the Virginia Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics, the Richmond Pediatric Society and the Richmond Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Talibi received his M.D. from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA. Dr. Talibi completed his undergraduate work at the University of Virginia where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. In addition, Dr. Talibi received a Master of Arts in Archaeology from the University of Florida.

Dr. Talibi resides in Richmond, VA with his wife and two children.

Shannon Cannon, CPNP is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Shannon is a member of the National Association for Pediatric Nurses and Practitioners.
Shannon received both an M.S. and a B.S in nursing with a minor in Spanish from Virginia Commonwealth University. Shannon welcomes Spanish speaking patients! Shannon joined Commonwealth Pediatrics with four years of pediatric nursing experience from VCU Health System as well as 7 years of nurse practitioner experience from another office in Richmond.

Shannon resides in Midlothian with her husband and two boys.

Mrs. Carroll is a member of the National Association for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Pediatrics, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.

Mrs. Carroll received her M.S in nursing from the University of Virginia. Her undergraduate work was completed at the University of Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Mrs. Carroll resides in Richmond, VA with her husband and son.

is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Holly is a member of the National Association for Pediatric Nurses and Practitioners, American Association of Pediatrics, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.

Holly graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minor in Health Policy Administration. She received her Masters in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University. Holly joined Commonwealth Pediatrics with over five years of pediatric experience with VCU Health System.

Mrs. Holston resides in Powhatan with her husband and two children.

Carter Hunter

is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Carter is a member if the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and the National Association for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

Carter graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received her Masters in Nursing from Emory University. Carter joined Commonwealth Pediatrics in the Spring of 2020.

Prior to joining Commonwealth Peds, Carter worked as a Pediatric Hem/Onc/BMT nurse and as a Nurse Practitioner at Kidmed.

Carter lives in Richmond city and in her free time, she enjoys running/hiking with her two dogs and painting.

Sarah Kirchner

is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sarah is a member if the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, American Association of Pediatrics, and the National Association for Pediatric Nurses (NAPNAP). Sarah is a past-president of the Virginia Chapter of NAPNAP. Fluent in Spanish, Sarah welcomes Spanish-speaking patients!

Sarah graduated from Marymount University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received her Masters in Nursing from the University of Virginia. Sarah joined Chippenham Pediatrics in the summer of 2015. She has seven years of pediatric nursing experience with the University of Virginia’s Pediatric ICU as well as six years of Nurse Practitioner experience with another practice in the Richmond area.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys co-leading a Girl Scout troop and takes them on as many adventures as possible.

Keatrina Springer

is a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

Keatrina received her MS in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University. Keatrina joined us with 9 years of Pediatric Nursing experience from VCU Health System and 10 years of Nurse Practitioner experience in Richmond and Atlanta, Ga.

Keatrina resides in Chesterfield with her son.

Lactation Consultants

Kelsey Carroll

Kelsey Carroll

RN, IBCLC

has been a licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia since 2012 and graduated from Liberty University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is a member of the International Lactation Consultant Association and has been an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2018. She began her nursing career working in the Adult/ Pediatric Emergency Room both in Lynchburg, VA and in Richmond.

Her passion for postpartum care and love of newborns began quickly after the birth of her own two children and has been a mother/infant nurse since 2016. Along with bedside nursing, she has also been an inpatient lactation consultant at two major hospitals in the local Richmond area. Kelsey provides in-home lactation services as the co-founder and owner of Coming Home LLC.

Sarah Thorpe

Sarah Thorpe

RN, IBCLC

received her B.S. in Nursing degree from Liberty University. After spending many years as a bedside nurse, she found her passion in serving families and their infants. Sarah is an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant and a member of The International Lactation Consultant Association.

Not only does Sarah serve families in our practice but she also owns her own company, “Nurturing Birth and Beyond” where she further brings education and support to families in the comfort of their own home. Sarah says her goal as an IBCLC is to work with families to reach their personal goals every step of the way.
